* First time by this orchestra
Two great names, already well known by our orchestra and our public, will renew our familiarity with works and authors that are both close to heart and highly reputed. Jesús López Cobos, the Spanish international baton par excellence, proposes a coherent combination based on 19th-century German creation. Liszt's Two Episodes from Lenau's Faust, a work that is not frequently performed and is worth discovering because it goes beyond his piano production, opens the programme. It will be followed by Ludwig van Beethoven's Concerto no. 4, allowing the refined, idiomatic pianism of Javier Perianes, so intimately associated with the composer from Bonn so as to have performed the "Emperor Concerto" under Daniel Barenboim's baton, to shine. The programme will be rounded off with Robert Schumann's impulsive, vibrant Symphony no. 3 "Rhenish", a unique piece in its search for internal cohesion and its magical sound evocation of the Rhineland.
