* First time by this orchestra
Two young Spanish performers come together in this programme dedicated to two different aspects of the fascinating, versatile creation of the last century. Pablo González, no longer a promise but one of the most highly praised Spanish batons, has chosen, at this moment of unstoppable artistic expansion, Russian famous composer Piotr Ilich Tchaikovsky's Symphony no. 6, called "Pathétique", a personal statement of the utmost desolation, written and premiered months before his own death, most likely a suicide. One of the greatest 20th-century composers for the human voice is the British Benjamin Britten, with song cycles like these Illuminations for string orchestra and high voice; in this case, the Tenerife-born tenor Agustín Prunell-Friend, a highly reputed specialist in the song repertoire who is, moreover, an exquisite performer of this author's work.
