The OST joins the Big Steps project

The OST joins the Big Steps project

June 24 2009 | Current events

The OST will supply the music for a dance-based integration project organised by the Island Council of Tenerife, the German School, the IASS [Island Institute for Social Services and Social Health) and the orchestra itself, at the Tenerife Auditorium.

Over two hundred children, ages six to eighteen, will participate in this show. They are German School students and a group of young Africans, a mosaic of different cultures and experiences jointly dancing pieces by G. Holst and P. Glass. The young participants are discovering and developing their body expression skills, and enhancing team work as a strong value capable of opening new avenues toward understanding, solidarity and respect. The performance will be held on Saturday, 27 June, at 7:30 pm, at the Symphony Hall of the Tenerife Auditorium.

The works selected by Royston Maldoom and Tamara McLorg -the prestigious choreographers- are fragments from Gustav Holst's The Planets Suite and two works by Philips Glass, Arioso 2 and Façades. The Symphony Orchestra of Tenerife will be conducted by its chief conductor, Lü Jia. Pete Ayres will be in charge of the lighting design.
