The 2009-2010 season of the Symphony Orchestra of Tenerife features an innovative repertoire, renowned conductors and soloists, and a starring role for Canary Islands and Spanish music.
The chief and honorary conductors, Lü Jia and Víctor Pablo Pérez, respectively, will be the great protagonists of the season, and will share the baton with the rising Spanish maestros Pablo González and Josep Caballé-Domenech, and the internationally renowned Spanish conductor Jesús López Cobos, a regular guest of the OST. The foreign conductors include the German Hans Graf, Chinese maestro Muhai Tang and British conductor Christopher Hogwood, who is already a legendary figure in historically-informed performance.
The list of guest soloists is equally brilliant, including three stellar violinists, Frank Peter Zimmermann, Gidon Kremer and Janine Jansen, and the world's leading trombonist Christian Lindberg jointly with a distinguished group of top Spanish performers, such as Rosa Torres Pardo, Joan Enric Lluna and Canary Islanders Guillermo González and Agustín Prunell-Friend.
The OST's programme will combine innovation and tradition in a most appealing manner, presenting over thirty works it has never undertaken, including major figures like Mozart, Liszt, Debussy and R. Strauss, works by the Canary Islanders Gustavo Díaz Jerez and Claudio Coello, and the Spanish Isabel Urrutia, and masterpieces by great 20th-century composers, such as Takemitsu, Britten and Bartók.
Concertos and symphonies by Beethoven, Schumann, Rachmaninoff, Dvořák, Mendelssohn, Shostakovich, Brahms and Tchaikovsky will round off this singular programme that combines stars and new talents, great classics and glimpses of the new.
