Chuanyun Li studied with Dorothy DeLay, Itzhak Perlman, Hyo Kang and Kurt Sassmannshaus. He has performed with the Rotterdams Philharmonisch Orkest and Valery Gergiev, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and Neeme Järvi, the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra with Edo de Waart and Jiří Bělohlávek, the Iceland Symphony Orchestra and Rumon Gamba, the China Philharmonic Orchestra with Long Yu and the Singapore Symphony Orchestra with Lan Shui. He made his debut in Spain with the Symphony Orchestra of Tenerife under the conduction of Lü Jia. Chuanyun Li played the soundtrack of Chen Kaige's film Together and, in 2004, he participated, with Lang Lang, Yundi Li and Jian Wang, in a documentary series about the most outstanding Chinese musicians for Hong Kong television. During a tour of the United States with the China National Symphony Orchestra in 2006, the New York Times noted that the "opportunity to listen to Li's violin made the entire evening worthwhile". Chuan-Yun Li has made numerous recordings, including a dvd for the Stradivari Society, where he plays the Ruby, La Cathédrale and Jackson violins. His upcoming engagements include recitals in New York, Boston and Toronto, and Lalo's Symphonie Espagnole with the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Xian Zhang.
