Founded in 1979, the Insular Music Board of Trustees is an Autonomous Body of the Island Council of Tenerife, whose general objective is the dissemination of musical culture. As an Autonomous Body, it has legal personality and its own assets, and works under the supervision of the Island Council, which is in charge of ensuring that its objectives are met, notwithstanding the functional autonomy of its governing and administration bodies.
These bodies are:
1) The Governing Board, a collegiate body in charge of representation, administration and governing of the Body, whose members are appointed by the Island Council of Tenerife. Currently, it has eighteen members.
2) The Manager, a unipersonal body appointed by the Governing Board, who is in charge of the major administrative and management tasks of the Body, within the objectives, guidelines and agreements adopted by the President and the Governing Board.
As a cultural, educational, pedagogical and promotional institution, the Insular Music Board of Trustees has had a particular impact on the Symphony Orchestra of Tenerife. It holds a season of about twenty concerts, participates in the Tenerife Opera Festival, organises concerts for schoolchildren, national and international tours, etc.
Seventy-eight percent of the budget of the Insular Music Board of Trustees, which has a staff of one hundred, is financed through annual contributions from the Island Council of Tenerife. The rest of the budget is financed through contributions from the Canary Isles Regional Government and ticket sales.
