Since her debut at the Amsterdam Concertgebouw in 1997, Janine Jansen is considered a star in the Netherlands, her country of origin. Today she is internationally renowned as a great violinist, a truly passionate and extremely versatile one.

Her debut in London in November 2002, accompanied by the Philharmonia Orchestra under the conduction of Vladimir Ashkenazy, attracted great attention from the public and the specialised press. Since then, she has collaborated with the most prestigious orchestras, including the Koninklijk Concertgebouworkest, the Berliner Philharmoniker, the London Symphony Orchestra, the Cleveland Orchestra, the Sydney Symphony Orchestra and the NHK Symphony Orchestra of Tokyo. She has played with such distinguished conductors as Sir Andrew Davies, Mark Elder, Valery Gergiev, Neeme Järvi, Paavo Järvi, Sakari Oramo, Mikhail Pletnev, Edo de Waart and Sir Roger Norrington.

Janine Jansen has an exclusive contract with the record label Decca -Universal Music Group-. Her recent record of J.S. Bach's inventions and partita, with Maxim Rysanov and Torleif Thedéen, has echoed previous successes and quickly reached the top of the ‘US Tunes Classical' chart. Each of her recordings has been awarded a ‘Golden cd' for sales in the Netherlands and her debut album received a platinum disc in this country.

The most relevant performances during the 2008-2009 season include concerts with the Koninklijk Concertgebouworkest, the Orchestre de Paris, the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks, the Tonhalle Orchester Zürich and the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig. Outside Europe, she will perform with, amongst others, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Boston Symphony Orchestra and the NHK Symphony Orchestra of Tokyo. Janine Jansen will make tours with the Philharmonia Orchestra, under the conduction of Charles Dutoit, the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie and the Academy of St Martin in the Fields.

J. Jansen also regularly plays chamber music. She was a founder of the annual International Chamber Music Festival in Utrecht and has collaborated with it since then; she has also participated in the Spectrum Concerts Berlin, an important chamber music cycle in the Berlin Philharmonie, since 1998. Her chamber music partners include Leif Ove Andsnes, Yuri Bashmet, Mischa Maisky, Julian Rachlin, Kathryn Stott, Jean-Yves Thibaudet and Maxim Vengerov. Since the 2006-2007 season, J. Jansen has taken part in the Junge Wilde series at the Dortmund Konzerthaus.

J. Jansen studied with Coosje Wijzenbeek, Philipp Hirshhorn and, more recently, Boris Belkin. In September 2003, she received the Dutch Music Award, the most important distinction an artist can receive in the Netherlands, from the Minister of Culture.

She has received numerous awards, including three ‘Edison Classic Public Awards', an ‘Echo Award' for her recording of A. Vivaldi in 2006 and, in 2007, for her album of music by F. Mendelssohn and M. Bruch, as well as the ‘NDR Musikpreis', for her impressive artistic career in 2007.

Janine Jansen plays an Antonio Stradivari Cremona 1727, ‘Barrere', on loan from the Elise Mathilde Foundation, through the intermediation of the Stradivari Society of Chicago.
