Joan Enric Lluna

Clarinet

Joan Enric Lluna is a versatile musician who combines his activity as a clarinet player, both as a soloist and as a part of the most prestigious chamber groups, with orchestral conducting and teaching.

His latest performances as a soloist, at the City of London Festival with the Tokyo Quartet, the Festival Classique in The Hague with the Brodsky Quartet, the Ronaldseck Festival -Germany-, the Trasimeno Festival -Italy- with Angela Hewitt and the Jerusalem Quartet, and the Madrid premiere of J. M. Sánchez-Verdú's concerto with the Spanish National Orchestra, are worthy of mention. As a soloist, he has also collaborated with conductors such as N. Marriner, G.-A. Noseda, G. Rozhdestvensky and P. Goodwin.

Recently, he has been invited to play Sánchez-Verdú's clarinet concerto with the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks during the prestigious Living Music Festival in Munich.

J.E. Lluna, who was a co-founder of, and soloist with, the Cadaqués Orchestra, was recently appointed principal clarinet of the Orquesta de la Comunitat Valenciana at the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía by Lorin Maazel.

His interest in chamber music has led him to collaborate with the Tokyo, Brodsky, Endelion, Utrecht, Jerusalem, Chilinguirian, Lindsay and Sine Nomine quartets, and many other important performers.

Due to his commitment with contemporary music, he has played a leading role in projects with composers such as Sir John Tavener, Joan Guinjoan, Paul Barker, Isadora Zelbejan, César Cano and J. M. Sánchez-Verdú.

He teaches at the Trinity College of Music in London and the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya -Barcelona-, whilst being regularly invited by the most prestigious institutions to teach classes and give recitals.

This extensive experience has led to a clear vocation for orchestral conducting. After participating in the Academic Orchestra of Valencia and being mentored by maestro Jorma Panula, J.E. Lluna is being invited to conduct various Spanish orchestras, such as the Pablo Sarasate Orchestra of Pamplona, the Córdoba Orchestra and the Symphony Orchestra of Castilla y León, whilst performing as a soloist-conductor in several projects in Finland and England. Shortly, he will make his debut conducting the Scottish Chamber Orchestra.
