Music Director of the Chile National Symphony Orchestra

Born in Wroclaw, Michal Nesterowicz is one of the most interesting Polish conductors of our days. In 2004 he has been appointed Artistic Director of the Baltic Philharmonic Orchestra in Gdańsk, becoming the youngest conductor of a Philharmony in Poland. Immediately after he has been appointed Principal Conductor of the National Symphony Orchestra in Chile, position which he is holding currently.

Michal Nesterowicz has been performing concerts all over Europe and in the USA. In 1999 he was among the winners of the 6th Grzegorz Fitelberg International Conducting Competition and at the same time he won the special Award of the National Polish Radio Orchestra for the best Polish conductor. In 2005 the principal Polish newspaper Gazeta Wyborcza named Nesterowicz "Artist of the Year 2005" and in 2006 he was nominated "Conductor of the year" in Santiago de Chile.

In June 2008 the Jury of the International Conducting Competition of Cadaqués, chaired by Gennady Rozhdestvensky and Sir Neville Marriner, awarded Michal Nesterowicz with the First Prize.

Michal Nesterowicz has been working with all finest Polish orchestras as Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra, Sinfonia Varsovia, Polish National Symphony Orchestra Katowice, Beethoven Academy Orchestra Krakow and Sinfonietta Cracovia. His upcoming engagements include concerts with Tenerife and Las Palmas Symphony Orchestras, Wiener Kammerorchester, Wroclaw Philharmonic, Orquesta Sinfónica de Barcelona y Nacional de Cataluña, Beethoven Academy Orchestra Krakow, Orquesta Sinfónica de Euskadi, Orquesta Sinfónica de Galicia, Orquesta Ciudad de Granada and many others.

Michal Nesterowicz has worked with many soloists including Shlomo Mintz, Patricia Kopatchinskaja, Boris Berezowsky, Angela Marambio, Rachel Barton Pine, Ewa Podleś, Ivan Monighetti. His wide interest in contemporary and modern music has brought him also to collaborate with artists such as: Jean Michel Jarre, the Oscar winner Jan AP Kaczmarek, Zbigniew Preisner and Grzegorz Turnau.

Michal Nesterowicz studied at the Academy of Music in Wrocław and graduated in the conducting class of Marek Pijarowski.
