In this programme, Lü Jia brings us one of the most charismatic contemporary violinists and conductors, the colossal Latvian Gidon Kremer, whose outstanding career has been devoted to both the instrument he has become famous in and his work at the head of the Kremerata Baltic. In both fields he has combined, with great versatility, a command of the canonical and a decisive commitment to contemporary creation. It is therefore not surprising that, for this event, he has chosen Concerto no. 4 by the Russian Alfred Schnittke, whose corpus of violin concertos he has recorded for Teldec. Schnittke has been one of the most relevant Russian composers from the generation immediately following Shostakovich's and the influence of the latter is tangible in his first stage; he later briefly tried out atonalism and finally opted for a deliberate eclecticism that has been dubbed polystylism. The re-encounter with tradition is guaranteed with Beethoven's Symphony no. 7.
